A friend is programming a PLAN chat client for another artist's performance piece. It's kind of depressing that our thinking vis a vis interacting with/via a webserver is so constrained that artists have trouble seeing beyond chat of some kind

Again: what does the web server as a medium afford?

@clarkenciel use metadata on server requests as variables for some kind of generative art?

The act of serving the image or stream alters the outcome of subsequent requests.

@clarkenciel this isn't unique to the server as a medium, but does have that opportunity.

Also, call-and-response might be a fun concept to play with.

@cooler_ranch that second thing gets at ideas I've had thinking about this: the web server as an occluded thing that changes apart from you; clients give you a small window to observe a part of it.

@cooler_ranch there's also the idea underlying a lot of social media (and hinted at in a lovely way by that one xkcd project) of the server having some space just for you that you cultivate and occasionally bring into interaction with other people's spaces.
