as expected, this 3.5-hour-long meeting has resulted in a massive flare-up of my pain condition, so that's fun

also I kind of volunteered to write the comms strategy/manage social media for my city's Pride whoops
but hopefully this means I can force in some more community-consult measures and continue to make them less shitty by infiltration

omg someone is calling the organizers The Fuck Out and asking so many detailed questions on how they're going to implement the community's input about stuff like cop inclusion and will they be transparent and will you share the data and methodology and how you made the decision based on it and the organizer is so visibly uncomfortable it's amazing

the head of the board literally said she would love it if BLM or an equivalent stopped the parade to march in front like they did in Toronto last year, but THEY LITERALLY DID THAT AT OUR LAST PARADE and she thought it was 'rude' and told them it was 'a bad idea' that would make them look 'disrespectful'

sorry our pride just really fucking sucks and i'm annoyed at having to pretend not to think that so that they'll let me be involved in its organization

and by 'white guilt' i mean some white girl literally started crying at the idea of cops not being entitled to being a part of pride when their presence is literally dangerous to a huge portion of the ACTUAL queer community

i am probably going to hate this because i hate people IRL but our pride has repeatedly shown that it absolutely cannot be trusted to treat people of colour with any respect to speak of so, here we are
last year when some Black activists tried to get cops out, the pride committee literally had a 'secret meeting' (their words) with their almost-entirely-white committee and like 3 activists that was apparently 97% White Guilt and But Excluding Cops Is Mean

today i have to facilitate community consultations for my city's terrible Pride festival and i am Not looking forward to it

i mean, by 'have to' i mean 'infiltrated their management via volunteering because an activist group i'm in is trying to get cops kicked out of pride and this seemed like a good way to influence the process'

but i am still not looking forward to trying to wrangle a bunch of libs into not acting like cops are entitled to queer spaces
