« porquoi parle-t-elle »

porquoi le « t » ?

@candle à cause de la prononciation :) try to say it without the t ;)

@Nemo ahhhh. comment vais-je sais ce?

@candle vas-je savoir cela ? not sure about what you meant :o

@Nemo i meant "how will i know this (if i see it in other situations)" but i guess -t- is only ever that?

@candle it also works with "il" in this situation. You can try to put it if you can't read it out loud, when to vowels are side by side.

@candle and how will i know this can translate to "comment le saurais-je ?"

@candle i'm glad you asked that, because i looked it up and now i know! thank you!

@candle @datn in French we don't like having two voyels next to each other.

"Pourquoi parle elle"

Doesn't sound right, you don't exactly know how to say it, should the last e of parle be silent, but then you need to do the liaison which would sound like "parlelle".

Hence the "t" to keep the words separated and in the same time you can do the liaison.

@Balor @candle thank you! btw, the word in English is "elision", not "liaison", in case you are a language geek like me :)

@candle @datn thanks for the correction.

Ellison, right. Liaison... Pff again trying to shoehorn French directly in English. 😆

@candle @datn thanks for the correction.

Elision, liaison... Pff me again trying to shoehorn French in English 😆
