Technically it's apparently possible to do this, but it seems like there's about 30 reasons it could be doing this, all of them require different fixes, and apparently mint will reinstall grub if I uninstall it then update the kernel. >:?

I'm still kind of on the fence about linux, but i really like that if i want to do something, there's almost always clear instructions online. they're always so non-condescending, too! like people assume you can fix your own problem if you fiddle about a bit, and i love that.

I spent the morning installing a new theme & icons on Linux and it's dumb but I feel 100% better about it now it's less ugly. I think I need a different desktop environment tho, I'm not super happy with either of the ones I've tried so far

Really wish there was a way to subscribe to another instance's local timeline, cos I'm too tired to remember to check my other account regularly, but the timeline there is really good

(In Linux's defence, I'm trying to run a game from 13yrs ago. It worked perfectly when I tried a game released this year, and also still supports my laptop, which Apple don't)

I installed a game on Mac, and it consisted of clicking install then running it. Installing the same game
on Mint meant installing it, installing a bunch of packages, googling the error message to find the best advice was a 2011 post to the arch forums saying "I installed a bunch of libs and it worked". I know this is fixable, I know I will figure it out eventually but I have chronic fatigue syndrome and idk if I can do this every day

I really want to like Linux but so far everything has felt like a super uphill struggle in a way that OSX doesn't. It's frustrating as fuck because Apple have made so many choices I disagree with since I bought my Mac (in 2009...) I need a new computer and I fundamentally refuse to use Windows, so it's either learn to love Linux or get over my issues w Apple, I guess
