I was finally well enough to get dressed and type a bit today, and I'm so happy. I love typing and I love wearing day clothes

People being stoic for no reason is my least favourite part of being English. Like, are you really gonna sit there and bottle up your feelings until you're sad from doing that and I'm sad you couldn't talk to me? Why do that!! Use your words!

And that is to say nothing of Android, where a new device needs to be bought every two years if you want to keep it up to date, which is kind of ridiculous! (Or at least, this was the case when I used android. Maybe it's changed since then - I wouldn't know)

Apple have a metric shitton of problems in the way they build their devices and the way they treat their customers, but they are easy to use. If you can't even see why other people would want that, I feel like you're kind of out of touch.

Expecting every person to learn new skills and do something difficult for ideological reasons is kind of ridiculous, even if the ideology is a good one. Some people are not capable of learning that much about computers, even if they want to. Because of disability, or time constraints, or whatever. Seeing people insist anyone can install & use Linux makes me think they only speak to other people who use Linux.

If you see popular, simple-to-use, proprietary tech and conclude "people are idiots", you are fundamentally out of touch with what people want/need. Should there be straightforward FOSS tech? Yes. Is there? Not as far as I know. Installing Linux Mint took me a day and involved a significant amount of time googling problems & using the terminal. In comparison, starting up my brother's MacBook took 5 minutes. Most people have shit to do, and will pick an option that doesn't get in the way of that.

I say "one night a year" like I don't listen to all the songs in advance and watch all the semifinals too

I love Eurovision so much. I love how gay it is, I love how glittery it is, I love that the quality of the music is genuinely irrelevant. I love spending one night a year sharing a brilliant, ridiculous experience with a large chunk of the queer ppl in Europe. It is basically my favourite thing.

It's actually kind of surprising that this year all the potential UK Eurovision entries are kind of trendy sounding? We normally enter bland shit wherever possible. I'm excited to see how they do at the actual selections

General request: if you post pictures, please please include alt text describing the image so that everyone, regardless of visual ability, can enjoy your toot.

Please consider asking others to do this. Optionally, reconsider boosting toots if they don't have alt text.

We all have an opportunity to help shape the culture of this place and I'd love, love, love if it were "oh, everyone posts alt text with their images because that's just what you do."

The UK selections for Eurovision are on in 9 days, and I am SO excited for them. Eurovision is maybe the highlight of the year for me

Sometimes I turn my phone onto do not disturb because not getting notifications makes me feel like I'm in control of who I reply to and when

@agaric is your email like "alex.lastname@email"? She might have confused you with a relative of hers with the same name. Either that or she is some kind of fairy, distributing PSAT facts

@guerrillarain I've used it exclusively for the past few years! I can't recommend it enough. The option to use the tab things in the binder is the actual best. I think they've got a free trial on their site if you're on the fence!

@DeltaWitch yeah, idk why the site is entirely about business! it's an app you can download to IM people. there's also a browser client thing at app.wire.com. i've been using it for a couple of months. the notifications have been kinda buggy for me but otherwise it's seemed pretty good so far!

@DeltaWitch would wire work? It says you can log into three accounts at once and it doesn't seem like you need a ton of technical knowledge to use it, or a phone number necessarily
