I love reading a book and realising that the author clearly read & loved something that meant a lot to me growing up
Maciej Ceglowski is relevant here: http://idlewords.com/talks/haunted_by_data.htm
"If you can get away with it, just don't collect it! Just like you don't worry about getting mugged if you don't have any money, your problems with data disappear if you stop collecting it."
@Angle I have chronic fatigue syndrome and I basically would not be able to talk to other people outside of social media!! I think it's mostly corporate stuff that's bad. Like the way Twitter is run etc. I think if social media is done right it can be really beneficial
I will use CWs for:
1. things that are triggery for me personally
2. things that are common triggers, insofar as they are known to me
3. things that people ask me to use CWs for
4. really long posts (especially when there's a bunch of posts on the subject)
5. me being socially difficult (snarky/sarcastic/etc)
6. if I damn well feel like it
7. some jokes
I always endeavor to make the point of the CW as plain as possible, because otherwise it's kinda pointless to have one.
My mechanical keyboard shipped and it has tracking! It's in Bristol rn and I'm very excited about a weekend of refreshing the tracking page
Everyone here has such good cats
@elomatreb thanks, that's really helpful!
@elomatreb media player with library and playlist support! My desktop environment came with rhythmbox which is more or less what I want, but it doesn't support all the file types I use
Also like half of my iTunes downloads are so old they have DRM on them, and I'm going to have to redownload them. This is more complicated than I expected, haha
One of the music players does more or less what I want it to, but it doesn't seem to support .aac and I can't figure out how to make it. Also, it doesn't tell me when something doesn't work, it just goes quiet. I want it to alert me!!
"Setting up my browser just the way I want it on Linux seems like it's gonna take a while. I think I'll sort out a media player instead, that should be easier!"
#knuckletats that just say "HUBRIS"
@thamesynne I've lived in a house confused with one nearby! dunno if you're in a financial situation for it, but putting something clearly identifiable on the front of the house works. Like, "it's the one with a robin on the door" or whatever. Or just a thing saying the exact specific address.
Feeling a deep sense of kinship with everyone else online at 5:30 in the morning rn
We used to have post deliveries multiple times a day in England until like 2002 and I think about that every single time I'm waiting for a parcel. Can you even imagine having twelve deliveries a day? It was probably not much fun for the postmen tho
Listening to the Homestuck soundtrack always makes me feel really nostalgic, despite the fact that it ended like one entire year ago
@Morgane thanks for the feedback!
Hey, do I need to CW toots about non-alcoholic drinks? I know food and alcohol need CWing, but I'm not sure if soft drinks are an issue for anyone. Thanks!
Just bought my first mechanical keyboard! That was a lot of money!! I really hope it's good
Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus by Charles Mingus was an early, if somewhat misguided attempt at search engine optimisation
