@c8rz Autie here. I'm usually pretty direct, but I feel the response is understandable, as you are not asking "clearly". I would pick clearer words like "inspect and fix" etc.
I could see reading his response multiple ways.
1. "Yeah, I'm having problems with it, please fix it."
2. "I'm having problems with it, are you sure you want to touch* it right now?"
*touch could be "use", "Fix", etc
Personally, I would assume he's trying to be helpful.
If you do it politely, and possibly gently, asking him straight out for a yes or no answer wouldn't be a problem I think, but I would still try to change how you talk.
