I'm moving my account over to @benhamill. I don't wanna get into the details, but if you're really interested, I guess DM me over there. I'll import my follows momentarily. A bit sad to go because I love a lot of people on this instance.
Uh. I like to kindpost, I guess. It's a new skill I'm learning, anyway. Also real bad joaks.
I try to learn about intersectional social justice and am trying to develop the habit of taking concrete, real world action about it more often.
I've got a linguistics degree that I don't use professionally (I'm in software), but I love to talk about words and things.
I think play and playfulness are super important. I enjoy roleplaying, board and video games.
I'm a mod on #WitchesTown. Ask me if you have questions (though I only speak English, do I'm not much help to our large population of French speakers).
My family afforded me a brief nap today. I dreamed I was playing a game a bit like Journey, but there was voice chat and more people playing together than 2. I fell in with a gang of unbearably cool French anarchist kids who all mostly knew each other IRL. We got to a part where you skate/boarded downhill in twilight and they were doing all sorts of awesome tricks while making up raps about the black block and shit in a mix of English and French. I was amazed they tolerated my presence, but they were so nice.
I'm pretty sure this was a dream about #WitchesTown.
Mornin', witches and wicks.
I feel like in the last few weeks I've noticed strong smells really sticking with me. Like, twice I had a little whiskey at a party and felt like I was smelling it off and on the whole next day. And this morning there was a person on the bus with STRONG body odor and I'm still getting whiffs even though I was sitting on the other side of the bus. I don't know if it's psychosomatic or what, but it's really weird.
Just now almost threw my spent tea bag into my backpack instead of the trash can. They're on opposite sides of my desk. I'm so good at life, y'all. So good. 😜
Good morning, witches and wicks.
I ended up sleeping like ass last night. The problem with Among Others is that it's too compelling and there's no chapters. It's written like a diary, and the entries are relatively short, so it's easy to fall into an infinite, "just one more," loop.
Oh well. I have tea and am leaving work early today so we can go to the 6yo's friend's 7th birthday party. Hopefully some other parents are cool to chat with.
And we have basically no plans for this weekend. Probably taking down holiday decorations and finding places for all the kiddos' new stuff.
I am sleepy, but also sort of... not anxious, but jittery, maybe? Not sure how to calm down so I can sleep. I have to be up in the morning. This is not convenient. Anyway, maybe being away from the screen will help. Gonna go read a bit. Night, friends.
The pre-release rules of #Dialect (a Game About #Language and How it Dies) are done and us backers got a PDF. I haven't read through it much yet, but it is a GORGEOUS book. The layout and use of color and not to mention the illustrations. I can't wait for final edits and printing, so I can get my paper copy.
IDK if the creators are on here or not (they'd probably fit right in on dice.camp), but if so, I hope they see this and someone LMK, so I can follow them.
Hey Mastodon!
Do y'all have any favourite artist/writer combos or small creative teams who have or are presently making cool stuff? I wanna start checking some folks out but I'm not sure where to start outside of my current faire.
((please feel free to boost this if you want! I'd definitely love to try get a good spread of perspectives if possible))
Okay yeah, seems confirmed. I'm straight up gonna have to find a new RP group or start my own. Canceled sessions are outnumbering ones actually played. And it's been an hour without hearing from the GM tonight...
Actually, I'd probably be willing to try about anything that isn't just D&D. So if any of ya'll have an opening in an online campaign, I might be interested.

Hey Mastodon, let's play a game!
It's called #SlumberPartyPack
History: Target often bundles two movies together based on some perceived connection of themes. Goonies and Adventures in Babysitting for example. Some of the themes were more abstract than others.
Rules: In the preview of your message, name 2-3 movies that share some kind of connection. (How obscure is up to you.)
Under the cut tell us what your theme was.
Make sure to hashtag it #SlumberPartyPack

Artist looking to do commissioned work? I may have a job for you:
I need an artist who draws in that round flat animesque style that's so popular these days (similar to Adventure Time or Steven Universe).
You will need to make several color illustrations, mostly of single characters:
- Mascot for an open source software project in various improvised poses
- Amusing illustrations of Patreon reward levels
- Various small illustrations for decorating website
DM me your portfolio if interested!
Welp. My work laptop won't boot. So I'm being super productive right now. How's your morning going?
Hey friends, who knows things about language revitalization? I have lots of linguistics and teaching experience. I would really like to get into this. Any recommendations or resources?
wait...... is there a Comic Serif?

Whether you're celebrating anything today or tomorrow or not, whether you're with genetic or chosen family or not, wherever you are: I hope you have a great weekend.
