@benhamill just wait till you find out that there's other "moments", e.g. "moment of mass" (center of mass), "moment of force" (torque), etc.
I really love the phrase "moment of inertia".
@ansate As astonishing as that idea might be to some folks… yes. 😄
@LottieVixen @Pasty Like a tree person from Middle Earth.
@Pasty Have you checked to see if she is an Ent? She might be an Ent.
@addison It's still early-ish, but despite 3yo-related delays, we got the 6yo to school on time. So I'mma count that as a win.
@addison 👋🏻 How're you today?
hey does anyone know how to get your name and gender marker changed in maryland?
Good morning, witches and wicks. 💖
@ansate I can see it not being for everyone. 🤷🏻♂️
@agaric Good luck out there, kiddo. 😜
jomatoes (jean tomatoes)
Mastodon users talk about jorts a lot
here's why
1. jort
that is all, I will not be taking questions
@BadWrongFun That's pro level, right there. Wow.
@BadWrongFun What. I don't pay much attention to Metal Gear, so I didn't know there was a new game or anything, but EVERYTHING you just said sounds 100% believable. Which is sort of depressing, but 🤷🏻♂️
@sydneyfalk @Gargron Jom (Jean Tom)
@agaric IDK if it's standard. I think the standard is that people are all over the place and no one writes good emails. 😜
I'm lucky in that I'm not often in a position where it matters if I put someone off a bit by writing an informal sounding email where they would have preferred to get something more formal.
If you call your advisor "Brian" instead of "Mr. Eno" (IDK why I'm using his name all of a sudden, but 🤷🏻♂️), but don't want to just... START. You could put "Hi, Brian." at the front. If it were me, I'd put it as part of the first paragraph instead of it's own line, but YMMV.
@Gargron @daggertooth Maybe something like the Fame Witch? It's a bit of a blunt instrument, but it's stuff that's unusually popular on WT.
@agaric What. "I don't put salutations in emails to people I don't know." That is the opposite of what I meant. How confusing.
Correction: I don't put salutations in email to people that I know.
@agaric I don't put salutations in emails to people I don't know. If I call someone by ANYTHING in person, I probably just start the email with whatever I'm saying. Or, like, "Hi."
I don't sign 'em, either. The to/from fields take care of that for you, IMO.
I think of it like if dad left a voicemail starting with, "Hey, Benno. This is Dave Hamill. Your dad. Give me a call when you get this." Like, yes. I knew before I even heard you say my name to recognize your voice that it was you: My phone told me you left me a giant sound file to play instead of just hanging up and assuming I'd get the idea.
I may be grumpy on this topic.
