@agaric Hi, gay and i cant write emails. I'm dad.
@ThisQueerBashesBack I believe, friend, that THAT is a joveseat.
@er1n I've always heard that term in the context of someone situationally switching from their regular dialect to one that's seen as higher prestige.
But also: Same. I ask what's this and say good morning in German regularly. And a small bucket of Spanish, too (hasta mañana, de nada, y unos pequeños más).
@guerrillarain I have a fallow account on there. I couldn't be bothered to update it and felt compelled to put in all the back catalog and, like, comic books and then I wandered off. Sorry.
I'm happy to recommend stuff, though, in case there's stuff I've found that you haven't or whatever. If that's what you were after.
@witchfynder_finder Haha. See my next post, but, tl;dr: Agree.
It reminded me a bit of House of Leaves, tbh.
Next up in Binti: The Night Masquerade by Nnedi Okorafor. It's the third in a series (trilogy?) and I'm excited for it.

It also makes me curious about the movie. The trailers make it seem pretty different from the narrative presented in the book. I don't know if that's because the movie presents (some amalgamation of) the content from the whole trilogy or if it's the usual Hollywood violence being done to the story.
Honestly, I think a straight translation into film might be pretty awful. And they could do the book proud even by just presenting the same world with different characters and such. It's got the space for it and could be equally creepy. I don't know that that means I'll see the movie, though. I guess we'll see. I do plan to pick up the next book, though. #books
Finished Anihilation by Jeff Vandermeer this evening. I don't usually do horror things (movies or books or games), but occasionally I like something creepy. This was one such thing. About half way through, the sense of growing, undefined, inspecific dread was really strong. I think it did a great job of outlining VERY FEW knowns and hinting at a vast sea of malicious unknowns.
The resolution felt satisfying without actually providing many answers at all? And some of the stuff felt like things that Lovecraft was trying to do, but retreated to vagueness and implication where this book held the course. #books
@veer66 I haven't done a scientific sampling, but it seems like a LOT of people…
@kawa I don't, but in this video, the director says it once or twice and it sounds reasonable to my ear. Also the video is just super good. Spoilers for Black Panther, though. https://youtu.be/SNHc2PxY8lY
@InspectorCaracal Hmm. More like a cluck? When I do it the sides of my tongue do touch my teeth, but the release is all at the front. If you do the sides, is a LATERAL alveolar click (if I remember my terminology right).
If you do a sort of teeth sucking tch or tsk click, that's too far forward.
Does that help?
@Qwyrdo @benhamill For the pros and cons of using Xhosa as Wakandan, see https://dedalvs.tumblr.com/tagged/Wakandan and https://twitter.com/Dedalvs/status/965687828653879296 (et seqq.)
@0xf00fc7c8 @dzuk Maybe call them longcodes, though. 😜
@shadowfirebird @gcupc I expect that also means it wasn't super hard to find a translator to work with them. I saw something about the actor that played T'Chaka speaking it and teaching Boseman? So that seems cool.
I don't understand people who get on their phone while standing at a urinal. Like… on the one hand: It doesn't take ✨that✨ long to pee. Can you really not stay off Instagram for the whole duration of emptying your bladder? On the other hand: Aren't you terrified you'll drop your phone in the urinal and then have it, you know, smell like pee forever after that?!?
Today is, apparently, the day where I post about small things that confuse me.
@Antanicus I did not know that (not a big Die Antwoord aficionado or anything, but still). That's cool!
