@ThisQueerBashesBack We do this at Slack. I'm convinced that anything is a sandwich, at this point. 😜

@blackle Just, like, a blacksmith pounding an anvil and some monks singing, prolly.

@ThisQueerBashesBack One distinction that I kinda like is that to be a Real Cyborg™, you have to have an after-market modification that provides a new capability or some kind. So glasses or a prosthesis don't make you a cyborg, but something that lets you "see" UV light or 3x strong synthetic muscles do. Whether IUDs or those fancy bendy foot replacements that count, IDK. Because they're at least SORT of new capabilities?

Or what about if you embed your transit card's chip in resin on your fingernail? What about your ✨phone✨?!?

At some point it devolves into Yet Another Mostly Useless Taxonomical Debate. 😜

@ThisQueerBashesBack On a more serious note: What constitutes "supplimenting"? Like, is the Major from Ghost in the Shell a mechanical person supplimenting her body with organic parts because the only organics in there is he brain and stem or whatever?

@ThisQueerBashesBack I opened the reply box to make a joke, thought for a bit and didn't have anything I felt was funny, closed it and then was like, "Waaaaaait a second…" and opened it anew. IDK if the humanoid Cylons from the new BSG actually had any mechanical bits at all? They were synthetic, but maybe 0% mechanical.

I have developed a method of folding fitted sheets. My wife refuses to learn and accuses me of dark magic. So I do it a lot. I have realized that if I do it without the sheet and make it a little more… rigid I guess is the word… it ends up looking like something the characters on the Magicians TV show would do. That show has a lot of flaws (above and beyond the ones it inherited from the books), but the way those hand motions were realized was ✨not✨ one of them.

@tcql Fuck! I missed my chance! I should have done some hand wavy shit like on the Magicians TV show.

Walking back from the neighborhood sandwich shop (where I walked to get a brownie to eat as I walked back), I passed a kid playing in their front lawn. I'd passed 'em on the way there and waved. On the way back, I waved again and said, "It looks like it might really rain in a second. Stay dry." And literally 10 seconds later, the rain went from a barely perceptible drizzle to a light but steady rain. I opened my umbrella and turned around to share my incredulity at having been so accurate, but the kid was too busy running for the front door to pay attention to random wandering adults.

@sysadmin1138 Uh. I would attend any of those. I think those are pretty great topics for a software conference.

(I might suggest workshopping the title of the third one, though. At first I read, "Dealing with immigrants," and was like, "Excuse me what?!?").

@mona Hmm. I hadn't thought that specifically, but one theory the journalist mentioned he was going to pull on was the idea that it's a super low overhead/startup-cost business to toss onto some land that you want to hold while it appreciates and then also is easy to tear down when you want to put something else up there next. Which is super gross.

@anthracite I feel this so much. I do have paper books and some magazines (well, Jacobin), so that's nice. And I actively talk about games, but I hadn't thought too much about music. I sometimes put on what I like in the car instead of what they like (there's significant overlap, though). But we don't have a big stack of vinyls at home like I did growing up where I discovered surf music and the soundtrack to The Big Chill. 🤔 I wonder if it just takes some more intentionality? Because what parents really need is more tasks to spend our effort on. 😜

@mona Clearly. But, like, I don't understand why if you're going to build a shitty construction project in Austin why you'd break from the current trend of throwing up yet another luxury condo building. At least those are buildings for people to be.

I hate everything. I'm going to try not to rave on tape, though.

(Or, heavens forfend, a public space like a plaza or some shit!)

Good morning, mastonauts. I'm working from home today so that I can go talk to a journalist later about why the HELL there are so many self-storage places popping up in the middle of Austin where real estate is already pricey and in places where it would be much nicer to have pedestrian-friendly stuff like a cafe or something.

@chosafine @weirdoslam @wxcafe Ack. Sorry. You want I should delete and repost or anything?
