A lot of countries have pretty strict requirements about visas and such with the effect that if you don't have it lined up before you arrive, you're unlikely to be able to get the paperwork and shit done before whatever temporary visa you get runs out. Then you're in a place of having to dodge immigration control or whatever. 🙃
