@ruth I just started this book, too! I'm only a few pages in so far, though.
@dconley Yeah. Same. I also think there's some deal with just how he'd written and the gags he's given? And that the way the other characters' flaws are displayed I really like? Watching this with my family, I find myself saying at the end of a lot of scenes, "Toph is so good!" where "Toph" could be almost any character except Aang. And I think it's that he almost doesn't have flaws? Or they're not super spotlighted, anyway. Contract Toph's emotional distance or Sokka's patriarchy or … all of Zuko or whatever.
I love this feminist analysis of Aang as a character in Avatar: The Last Airbender. http://princexuko.tumblr.com/post/162241942864/avatar-aang-feminist-icon I love that show a lot and these are just some really good takes.
@amphetamine Feel like we haven't talked in a while, and thought of you randomly, so just wanted to check in with you. I hope you have a great day! ✨
Mornin', y'all.
It's warmish and damp in Austin today. My wife had a meeting near my office this morning, so I didn't ride the bus. My boss (and sole teammate) is out sick. Today is ✨all✨ kindsa outta whack.
@turbodragon Thanks. I should probably go away from a computer. Can't be helping me.
I hope you have a great evening (or morning or whatever time is zone appropriate).
@turbodragon Should be responsible and go to sleep. Not feelin' sleep so much right now. I feel the need to, like, SO SOMETHING before bed, but IDK what and it seems sort of silly. You know?
@turbodragon How's it?
Turn the radio off. Afficher plus
@katje Hahaha!
@katje Hmmm. Looking ago I read a few of her vampire books. 🤔
@katje I've never really understood what "southern gothic" means, but maybe reading this will help me understand. It doesn't look super long, so I'll probably be done around next weekend.
Next up is Anihilation by Jeff Vandermeer. It's a movie and such, which looks like it might be interesting, but what pushed me over the edge to read it is that there's apparently a book club at work and they're reading it. #books #nowreading

Just finished the final book in the Dragonoak trilogy, Gall and Wormwood by Sam Farren. Whoof. I really liked this trilogy. I feel like it might warrant a CW of some kind, but I'm not sure what without listing a bunch of really specific stuff. In many ways, the book is about trauma and how hard it is to deal with that, but how it doesn't have to define a person. And also love and all the power of that. And also queer relationships that are just beautiful. All the characters were great and the sympathetic ones were fun to root for. And the ending just made me so happy. I guess that's a minor spoiler.
I will totally check out the author's next book. #books
@B0undarybreaker Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope you get to spend time with people close to you or hugs or whatever you need.
In the place of a Dark Lord you would have a dancing QUEEN! Not dark but young and sweet as the Morn! Treacherous as the Seas! Only seventeen! All shall feel the beat from the tambourine and despair!
