@zigg @gcupc Yeah. Fuck icy roads. It's often ~32°F here (maybe with wind chill or whatever) without ice. But when we get ice in central Texas, we get awful ice. Especially in Austin, we have a lot of key bridges and stuff. Traffic gets ridiculous. So even if biking on iffy roads was safe, the cars get wild. So… ⚠️

@gcupc @zigg Heh. 50°F is my line. I would need a little more cold gear, I think, before I'd wanna do that, but _also_ the kiddos would need some. So 🤷🏻‍♂️…

@balrogboogie Warm enough to use the bike to take the kiddos to school today (except the 3yo threw a giant fit, so I left her with mom at home so I wouldn't have to wrangle fit-child through the halls of the elementary school and we took her later). So basically the inverse of you. 😜

@zigg THat's pretty great. Not the weather part, but that you discovered something you like that way. Texas is weird in that if you're not SUPER into it, there's big swaths of the calendar where it's too hot or too cold to be comfortable to just, like, ride around.

But I have a dream that once my kids are old and competent enough to ride as well, that we can just ride over to neighborhood stuff all the time. The 6yo isn't showing tons of interest in putting in the practice, though, even with training wheels.

@viciousviscosity I'm still waking up, but pretty good. Looking forward to a pretty plan-free weekend. My mom's turning 70 and we're doing a thing, but otherwise we can just, like, do house work and laze around.

@zigg I am not a person who will do exertion just because. I don't find it very intrinsically rewarding. But I will do exertion for a purpose and I prefer a bike to a car, so as long as I feel safe and have the stamina, I use that. Typically, this is just to drop my kiddos off at schools and then return home to walk to the bus. But it means I'm more dedicated to doing it than if it were "just" about being in shape because the kids sort of have to get to school.

Except when it's cold and I steal my wife's car for a bit and she graciously delays her departure for work. 😜

@zigg That's a bummer. Cold is the butts. It was warm enough to ride my bike this morning and I even didn't wear a hat that covers my ears when I transitioned into work.

@Vann @staticsafe Maybe in some expansion? I don't remember bike lanes. I remember pedestrian paths, but didn't play with them much. Maybe those can take bikes, too?

I only have a couple of the expansions so far. Snowfall, maybe and some sports one?
