If you have chocolate syrup and milk what's the best way to make hot chocolate? Do you heat the milk, then stir in the chocolate? Make chocolate milk, then heat it? Does it matter?
@benhamill I have powdered chocolate and not syrup, but maybe they're similar enough for this to apply:
I heat the milk first until bubbles just begin to appear, then add the chocolate. after that I'll frequently stir the mixture until it comes to a simmer. the idea is to avoid overheating the chocolate; I think the milk provides a buffer from the stove heat
@benhamill Hot chocolate is spiced, so you can't make it with that since it would just be hot chocolate milk.
According to sister (@TallTallAlex) who knows a lot about food, you use cocoa powder, honey, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Adding cardamom is a nice touch. (Her recipe.)
So I guess you would mix cinammon with the chocolate syrup first? (So it doesn't get all clumpy.) Then heat it in a sauce pan with a little milk and add more as you stir.
