#books #review Finished Provenance by @ann_leckie last night. Like her other books, people will talk about pronouns a lot and, while that is cool, they will completely be missing the things that make her stories fundamentally good. This one takes place after but doesn't flow from the Ancillary trilogy, so has spoilers. I really liked the main character's attitude and the way she thought about herself. It made her very real. I really enjoyed it. Recommended.
@benhamill I liked that the main protagonist was competent, but not in the usual things. It's challenging, like playing a D&D character with lots of charisma and not fighting skills whatsoever.
@saradgore Yeah. Totally agree. Without falling into the Holmes trap of just making her wicked smarter than everyone else or something.
I also liked that she wasn't confidence in her competence? It was a character "flaw" that you don't see a lot and made her really likeable to me. I know people like that; who are better at stuff than they think they are.
@ann_leckie Next up is the latest issue of Jacobin, which arrived a few days ago. So I'm not gonna review that one. Not sure after that. Might be the next book in The Expanse series (I think I'm on six or so?) or… I don't remember what's in the stack.
