I already hate what will be going on on new years eve.

people who live outside of germany: are folks using tons and tons of explosives where you live too?

@distelfliege many many more than I like. Where I last lived they were totally legal and it was absolutely awful. I think they're less so here but I guess I'll find out?

@ruth then I'm wishing you as low a noise level as possible.

@distelfliege thank you. I find them exhausting, but my dog is so distressed by them that it severely raises my stress.

@ruth here, it's my cat. I feel so bad for her. I went to the vet to ask if there are tranquilizers available for cats, but she had nothing for me. it's a bit tricky to dose a smallish cat correctly..

@distelfliege @ruth Would a thundershirt work for your pets for fireworks? Or are they too loud/startling for a thundershirt to help?

@auntiekiki @distelfliege we have a thundershirt for him and it helped a bit when he dealt with thunder on the plains but it mostly just slightly lowers how badly he vibrates.

@ruth @auntiekiki ok looked it up. I haven't tried it, I wonder if wrestling it on my cat might be a bad start of an already bad night..

@distelfliege @auntiekiki it is much easier to get on a dog than I imagine it would be on a cat. Well, on my dog. Among other things, mine is extremely clingy, so it's easy to manipulate him.

@distelfliege @ruth Heh, yeah, with a cat it'd have to be something they'd work up to. Or maybe just using the corner of a weighted blanket?

@auntiekiki @ruth 2 years ago i wrapped the cat in a blanket and put her on my lap. later i washed the blanked and my pants because she peed on me, she was so in fear. the poor thing.

@ruth @auntiekiki last year she was hiding under the bed. she doesn't dare to hide where it's darker and safer, because she seems to be afraid to be unable to see the potential dangers coming.

@distelfliege @ruth Oh poor thing. That's tough--if she won't completely hide and she doesn't want to be held...it might be best to just let her do what she needs to, as distressing as that can be for us humans.

@auntiekiki @ruth I need to look up what a thundershirt is.. the stuff is very loud here.
