There was part of gamespace that was people wandering around outside of their mecha, and part of gamespace where you had to get into a mecha to enter. Basically a scale shift

The set up is compelling: young women are made to sacrifice their bodies to preserve this shitty society, and entities keep coming in trying to destroy the center of the shitty society.

We were so excited waiting for them to realize they should be siding with the invaders, overthrowing the patriarchy that made them sacrifice their bodies to perpetuate it.

But nope. It's all played totally straight. Woo status quo.

We started getting a nagging feeling this might happen, so we each got a miniature table to set near us as we watched the final episode.

By the end, all tables were flipped
