In other news, I am completely weened from proprietary operating systems after windows update bricked my laptop :-/
@weirdoslam it helps a lot to have a friend or housemate who is willing to answer questions off the top of their head about useful command-line tools. ubuntu is relatively painless, though -- it errs on the side of compatibility, so more stuff 'just works,' even if that requires proprietary drivers, etc
@aprrrl how would i know how to play work command line stuff? seems p frightening to me 😥
@weirdoslam You could always give it a try by booting up the OS and playing around. Getting on the web and editing text are easy, and I think ubuntu has a software center thing now that helps you find useful software.
@aprrrl that's p cool!! i'll check it out then
@aprrrl yeah i wanna get into linux too, might be a big change for me tho
