If there's one thing I like about Digital Foundry its their retro analysis vids. They go into technical details and give insight into various game engines. More than just the raw numbers they usually do with modern stuff since fps of old games has extremely limited value on its own.

I appreciate the effort Digital Foundry puts into their stuff. The people involved have a fairly level view on frame rates and graphical detail which is nice. Just I feel many people would look at the raw numbers and proclaim something bad just cuz it has some graphical issues.

@fillertrack yeah
But it's how people normally go about talking about games as the general consensus of good and bad is inherently god awful
Some games should be seen as universally bad and some as good but ffs not every game with a tiny bit of charm and following is goat and npt every game with a technical flaw is the most insulting thing ever put onto the earth by satan

@ambyrb That's probably one of the top factors in all this. The hype machine. Companies drum up hype and inflate the value of the games that only a mirror shine is accepted and anything that deviates from that its deemed awful. Then it begins again every production cycle.

Ambyrb @ambyrb

@fillertrack also review scores
Jfc
Some of the most important games have mediocre or below 9 review scores

@ambyrb review inflation took over and also because so many games are homogeneous they usually get the same high scores because they're basically the same.

@fillertrack anyhow
Ugh
Botw took me out of that hype train and sobered me the fuck up about the reality of games

@fillertrack the majority of them are shit that's uninspired

@ambyrb there's a few good ones, like the Minesweeper

@fillertrack alright unironically minesweeper is great
