i'm glad you still enjoy it! doom really is a remarkable masterpiece imo. it's all about the feel, the speed, the balance.

@theoutrider reading just reminded me why it so annoyed me. if you find a collectible it's not saved until you reach the next checkpoint. (often multiple collectibles per checkpoint). i think those are mostly just to unlock concept art thankfully.

however, the "challenges" that actually increase your character's abilities (levels up essentially) require you to perform feats like kill multiple enemies with 1 grenade, etc. some are only possible in a select few locations in the game and if you don't get it the first time you may have to reload that checkpoint.

+there is no way to replay a prior level to "make up" any of these goals. much unnecessary stress.

@Christian interesting, wonder why this isn't more talked about by srs players (such as they are in this series)

forgot, i did play the DS one some. didn't seem fun anymore though (probably me as much as the game)
