i got serious weird body horror vibes from the pre-star wars trailer about people being voluntarily but permenantly shrunk to 5 inches.

really tweaks me for some reason. do not want

@alyx I think what I find disturbing about it (I've seen a couple different trailers now for this movie) is that the filmmakers don't appear to have even considered those implications. Or to be aware anyone could see it from that perspective.

@fjthom implications that it could be squicky?

what really drove it home was when the wife failed to follow through with it after he had, i was like 😬

@alyx Yeah, that part wasn't in the first trailer- it makes everything a lot darker.

@fjthom for me this is incontrovertibly tied up with my trans stuff; the concept of human bodies has always weirded me out on some level (due to above) with some bodies being good and some... less good, even bad. in this case instead of taking the journey together they become inherently incompatible. he is now irrevocably different, an outsider, freak, weirdo, etc. worst of all(?) he can't be "fixed"

i hate that a surprising amount and hopefully the gender transition parallels i'm drawing are obvious
