the first time i saw the force awakens i decided it was a 7/10
the second time, weeks later, 6.5
guess i should watch it one more time before TLJ. wonder if the numerical trend will hold
@alyx I honestly have so many weird conflicting feels about TFA because I loved it and I still love it but also it's so painfully just A New Hope again with a different coat of paint and it was an obvious set-up for a sequel, which I really hate because I feel like every story should stand on its own. Like, it was great, but still didn't beat the original trilogy.
Rogue One, on the other hand, is my fav Star Wars film. =P
@witchfynder_finder interesting re: R1
i felt TFA was most of all slight and insubstantial. it repeated ANH so much that i didn't feel i'd experienced much when the credits rolled
then i also got mad at the dumb plot holes / seeming violations of time and distance, most notably surrounding whatever they called the new death star thing, starkiller i think? thinking "this doesn't make sense!" really took me out of the movie
@alyx Yeah, Starkiller Base was a little bit iffy overall, but I also really love the shots of the lasers flying through space en route to destroying the Hosnian system. I'm also willing to forgive a lot of nonsense because it's ultimately a series of movies about people with laser swords who move things with their minds =P
@witchfynder_finder "you will find that the Alyx is not as forgiving as you are"
@alyx I'm still pretty optimistic about TLJ, though. I've only seen one teaser and that's because it played before Wonder Woman. I'm going in basically 100% blind. It worked for TFA and R1, I'm hoping it works again.
@witchfynder_finder cool. this is my first blind one. they played a trailer before thor but i literally covered my eyes and ears. still heard the dialogue but quickly forgot it
@alyx All I remember of the teaser was Luke was there, but I already knew he was gonna be there so =P
@witchfynder_finder i am somewhat confident solely because rian johnson seems good
@witchfynder_finder yeah same. i (gasp) didn't love brick either but i think he seems very capable
@alyx I'm honestly basically entirely over Abrams at this point.
@witchfynder_finder yeah. between TFA (for me) and (much worse) the last two star treks, blah
i did quite like cloverfield tho
@alyx Cloverfield was before he got lost up his own ass is why =P
I didn't hate the most recent Star Trek, either, but it still felt very formulaic and Abramsy. It was fun, but that's all. And that's not really how Star Trek should be.
@witchfynder_finder it wasn't the worst movie ever but i could not forgive blasting numetal-rap or whatever into space to disrupt enemy ship navigation, absurd motorcycle antics, and finding the perfect sexy alien lady conveniently stranded on the planet exactly where she needs to be
@alyx At least the perfect sexy alien lady had a real character this time and wasn't just there for to be had sex with.
I liked her in spite of the cliches.
@witchfynder_finder she was in fact very likeable
that is why we cannot trust her. too suspicious
@witchfynder_finder he seems down to earth and serious-minded in a way jj abrams does not
