what ghibli movies do you like to introduce newcomers to?
(this will be relevant to me in about 2 hours when i visit a friend)
@alyx i've only seen laputa / mononoke / nausicaa and i think nausicaa was my fav but laputa has a cool train scene
@candle laputa's definitely in the running!
and may i say i like that title more than the genericized (but less scandalous in spanish) "castle in the sky"
@alyx ohhhh is that why it's only called that in the uk/aus lol
@alyx Porco rosso is one that I'd recommend
i should add that nausicaa is my favorite but i am kind of maxed out on viewings of that of late because that has been my answer in the past ^_^
@alyx I usually tell people to read Nausicaä instead of watching it, this is the best manga I ever read.
@Nocta mm. i bought the Viz box set 15+ years ago but am i right in recalling that is only like, 5 of 7 volumes? because i guess it wasn't finished yet at the time?
@alyx It's 7 volumes and it is finished ^^'
@Nocta so i was wrong about the manga completion date (it was 1994) but indeed, the box set i have only has the first 4 volumes, so i've not experienced the true ending

wonder why they released it like this
@alyx I think because the story of the 4 first volumes kinda match the film. But it's a bit sad to not read the whole thing
@Nocta BUT ALSO if you do that you miss the amazing music and animated visuals and perfectly pitched climax of the ultimate jesus stand-in dancing to victory on metaphorical golden fields which makes u cry every time *cough*
@alyx fair point
@alyx spirited away!
@alyx nausicaa if they're up for the grim stuff, kiki's delivery service if they're not :)
