in 2005 i was such a nerd i imported a 90-odd lb, RGB-capable Sony CRT from japan. it was probably worth it, standard-definition games looked beautiful
here are some sample screenshots from saturn, snes and dreamcast games. prolly post more later.
@Alita yeah, once you go high-end CRT / RGB there's no going back
damn shame the things are so unwieldy. at least emu shaders and external scanline generators are getting pretty good
@Alita even the high-end ones like in retroarch?
i can't go without. old pixels aren't meant to be doubled, yuck
@alyx I have yet to use the filters in retroarch so idk. I've been using emulators most of my life so I guess it just doesn't bother me that much anymore. If im not playing with real hardware on a crt i'd rather not have any filters over it . 🤷
@Alita here's a (2 year old) sampler

basically crt shaders took a huge step forward with cgwg's shader several years ago. a lot of work's been done and now there are even shaders to emulate specific types of TVs, sometimes
@alyx I kinda think that most crt filters are kinda garbage. If im going to emulate just show me the crisp pixels.
