@lycaon i've been reading le guin's the dispossessed, in which an anarcho-syndicalist sect colonizes a planet's relatively harsh moon to escape from capitalism
the odonians (they follow Odo's political philosophy) all have one 5-6 letter name randomly issued by the central computer upon their birth. gender is not a consideration. when they die the name goes back into the pool for re-use
