i learned YT launched a new player/layout when i opened a YT tab in the background and immediately experienced ear-killing full-volume fury. my YT-taming userscripts/add-on were no longer functional
just for due diligence i checked youtube's settings menu for a remedy but the situation was even more dire than i expected
a site about heckin' watching videos that barely lets you control the video player. at least don't autoplay when the tab's not focused, geez
@alyx there's so much design in these past few years with the ethos of 'hey there, we know how you want to interact with this thing, so just let us handle everything'
this most recently has lead to google force feeding me cryptocurrency news because i once searched 'wut bitcoin?'
@starsky yeah. bugs the hell out of me but it's tough, because when you look at the statistics on technology use a vanishingly small percentage of users could be called power users, folks who actually use more than 10% of the features in a traditional windows program (numbers approximate)
(which makes me feel like even more of an outlier, heh)
but it's annoying as time passes and apps/websites/etc i use lose features they've had for ages
@alyx i miss fucking with things until they break or they work exactly how i like them. avenues for being annoyingly particular about things are dwindling day by day
@starsky that is totally my thing. you should see the silly doom-launching batch file i'm writing for my stream ✨
you have two firefox releases before they remove support for the powerful old-style add-ons that can completely revamp the interface. get fucking!
ah, it's still possible to revert to the previous, add-on-compatible player
