imo a good mastodon feature would be the ability to see all your past interactions with a given user

since there's no text search it can be quite difficult to find your prior interactions / conversations with someone

@alyx Agree, completely. Never understood why birdsite chose to divide our interactions in ways that made following back through time an impossible set of swaps.

If masto could give us a sequentialised tree as our TL (will need an arbitrary or specifiable depth*n of related accounts, difficult SQL, not impossible) then we'd be very, very happy.

Just went away for a dig and mulled on the idea, the data structure would have to be heavily normalised, which it doesn't look like from a cursory pass through.

Damnation. The overhead would probably be too intense for reasonable performance with the existing structure.

@sophieactual thanks for doing the homework, such as it is. i'm not surprised it's a big ask tech-wise. seems a pretty major feature to add.

it's funny how now that all of us nifty people are converging on a platform we found interesting we are finding it to have so many limitations, almost like we want to scrap and start anew with what we've learned/realized

(ofc i realize masto is based off an existing open-source protocol and that fact alone brings many/most of the limits)
