@lmorchard We're about 3 episodes into Luke Cage. so far I like it more than Daredevil and less than Jessica Jones.
@lmorchard we haven't started Iron Fist. we are skeptical of comic movies and shows these days, so it's we gotta hear something's great from multiple sources before we'll give it a try.
@allianora That's fair. There's a lot of trash to be disappointed in and life's short. :)
@lmorchard that's some true life advice right there.
@lmorchard @allianora ugh I've heard nothing but really bad things about Iron Fist. Aside from apparently terrible execution, it seems like there's some fundamental premise-level issues that make it not seem like a very good idea
@tcql @lmorchard yeah, I hadn't heard anybody talking about Iron Fist at all, so I kind of assumed it had been made without a lot of forethought.
pretty much the summary i've gotten:
- fight scenes are pretty underwhelming (daredevil s2 were clean and exciting, these feel messy and obvious)
- rich whiny white dude does martial arts is ... a bad premise
- the show spends more time showing people in board room debates than in doing anything actually interesting or relatable
@tcql That is a very accurate summary of Iron Fist. I just finished it and I'm all like WTF @allianora
@lmorchard @tcql @allianora Without doling out too much, keep this in mind, Danny *is* mentally Ill, he's not particularly likable; if you look at him as a neurotypical, his behavior makes no sense at all, but as you begin to realize that all is NOT well, his character becomes a little more... tolerable.
But yea, the fight choreography phoned it in and Finn Jones' acting just... falls flat.
@viciousviscosity Yeah, though I'm also like: Did the monks not realize he had issues before they chose him to become the world's best martial artist and, like, their sole defense against the world? @tcql @allianora
@lmorchard I guess even monks and dragons are not infallible and make unwise decisions, that's all I got.
@tcql @allianora
@allianora Even with the flip, it's still really good. Thinking yeah it's the best of the Marvel stuff on Netflix so far. Having trouble getting through Iron Fist though :/
