alex but cold @agaric

any of yall have opinions about the google pixel 2? i feel like ive heard bad stuff but idk. my brother might be getting it for a graduation present

@agaric i'm planning on getting one soon. the nexus 6p was the first phone i've ever truly been happy with, and i'm really excited about the improvements the pixel line brings while maintaining the overall experience and quality i'm used to from the nexus line.

@agaric the pixel 2 xl's screen "problems" seem like nitpicks to me, but i haven't really seen the screen for myself. either way, not enough to get me to not buy it. and if you're worried about it, the smaller pixel 2 doesn't seem to have these issues.

@ctrlaltdog I read a review that was mostly just saying the pixel 2 was a good phone but it had the bezels on the front that apparently were the largest drawback for the reviewer.. lol

@agaric yeah, i saw those gripes in the same article i first saw the stuff about the pixel 2 xl's screen, and it just baffles me what kinds of ridiculous complaints entitled silicon valley tech bros can come up with.

@agaric I have one and it works really well for me. Granted, I'm not a phone expert.

The biggest complaint I've heard is that there's no headphone jack, but I use bluetooth headphones so I haven't had any problems with that. (It also comes with a converter dongle, so it's not any extra to use wired headphones)

@MariBari Yeah i feel like the lack of the headphone jack is bad but also apparently inevitable as far as tech goes..

@agaric Yeah, the phone industry is really... inbred right now, for lack of a better word. Basically every flagship phone has the same internal specs, and basically every phone is jumping on Apple's "pay us money to use headphones" bandwagon.

So basically, everybody just mingles around comparing stupid gimmick features and phone durability, and people have decided that the pixel 2 doesn't have enough gimmick features to be considered a top-tier phone.

Side note, there's a big difference between the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL. They were made by different manufacturers and, by phone reviewer standards, should be treated like completely different phones.

@MariBari good to know about the difference between the two! my brother is a thru hiker so he likes small things lol, so i pretty much already ruled out the XL. but yeah it's so gimmicky it's unbearable! luckily i like my current phone and it works well for me so haven't had to worry about new ones
