i am slowly becoming less terrible at rocketry :thaenking:

@Vann it was a lucky shot but i'll take it, not giving myself good odds on surviving re-entry

@bea ah you're not trying to put something in orbit around the mun, still super cool

If you want advice surviving re-entry from that height, try to bring your periapsis down to about 60-50km or so. That should slow you down enough to land either on that orbit or the next without getting too hot.
should.

@Vann thanks!

there is currently no periapsis, this trajectory intersects the planet...

@bea oooooh I see that now. The encounter with the mun slowed you down since you passed in front of it and it's pulling you toward it
it's pretty efficient to make adjustments that high up, but if your out of fuel...
well it'll be an exciting re-entry at least~ (and probably fine honestly)

@Vann i have about 1/3 of a tank left on this lil friendo

i think if i can manage to hit the ocean my science jr will survive though i wonder... can i pull the science out of it and keep it in the command pod so it doesn't matter if it's destroyed?

@bea yeah if have the upgraded facilities that let Kerbals EVA. Just get out, get close to the science jr, right click and take data

@Vann ok... i did it and adjusted orbit as you said so periapsis is at 50k. it took almost no fuel so i still have about 1/3 of a tank left maybe i can do a re-entry burn with it? :thaenking:

@bea I'm sure you'll be fine~
btw f5 and f9 are quicksave and quickload ;p

@Vann save...ing.....

hmmmmmmmmm

never even occurred to me, guess i played too much caves of qud...
