beware any rationale for not adding features to software that boils to down to nothing more or less than "well yeah it's got a legit use but what if people abuse it" and nothing else
in this case I'm thinking of the ability retroactively to edit posts, at least for a short time
why is this not a feature? the _true_ reason is that it's difficult to implement. it requires keeping track of more information. if you don't allow editing you can just spray and pray
but would there not be great benefit in giving people a margin of error, when they realize they've made a mistake?
why must it be "delete or let stand" only?

I think the situations are very similar. the fear with an arbitrary pronoun field is that people will use it to inflict cruelty on others with "joke" pronouns. maybe not as specifically painful as what could be done with a selective edit of a post, but still, it can be used to hurt
