So @packetcharmer and I have been discussing of using our soon-to-be-owned Tesla and a trailer to help trans people move out of shitty households.
There's a lot involved in moves, of course, but having free movers with their own vehicle & enough networking connections to help get a job & a place to stay counts for something, I think.
If we were to get serious about this, though, we'd want to ask for donations from better privileged people in the community to help cover costs.
@Ulfra_Wolfe I love this idea!
@Ulfra_Wolfe i would gladly donate :)
Other smaller time things we can help with:
--Going clothes shopping with you.
--Keeping a copy of your will with us in a safety deposit box, helping you notarize a will (when Hazel becomes a proper Notary Public).
We'd also long-term want to know more sewers that can help us clothe trans people as they prefer, and better express themselves.
Which also can be a better option for plus-sized trans people who have trouble finding clothing to fit.
@JulieSqveakaroo Uuuuh. More people that sew. Lol.
@JulieSqveakaroo Only NOW do I realize how else that word could be taken.
@Ulfra_Wolfe @JulieSqveakaroo Oh thank goodness, I thought I was going mad.
...der, I suppose.
@Nezchan @Ulfra_Wolfe I thought it might be some new slang that I was not aware of!
@JulieSqveakaroo @Ulfra_Wolfe Kids these days!
@Ulfra_Wolfe @JulieSqveakaroo "Clothier" is a good one.
@flitterbatflutterbat @JulieSqveakaroo My issue is that that sounds very professional, not quite communal activity
@Ulfra_Wolfe @flitterbatflutterbat ... stitch-witch?
@Ulfra_Wolfe OH! Yeah, that would make a TON more sense!
@Ulfra_Wolfe @JulieSqveakaroo that took me three tries to parse, yes. XD
@Ulfra_Wolfe This is admirable as hell and extremely awesome.
@Ulfra_Wolfe @packetcharmer Wouldn’t a small pickup truck, suv, or step van be more sensible than a Tesla for this purpose? Have you confirmed that the Tesla model you’re looking at can even tow a trailer, and with how much weight?
@demonkind @packetcharmer Model X has a 5000 lb. towing capacity, a range of ~300 miles before needing a recharge, and extra space where a gasoline engine vehicle would have its mechanical parts in. Plus, the autopilot feature makes it far easier on us.
@packetcharmer @demonkind Plus, it recharges instead of takes up fossil fuels, so it's much cheaper to run, and we have free access to supercharger stations.
@Ulfra_Wolfe @demonkind note that range is optional conditions, not pulling a trailer
@packetcharmer @demonkind But like, even if the range was halved, that's still not so bad.
@Ulfra_Wolfe @demonkind we just need to be able to get between superchargers
@Ulfra_Wolfe @packetcharmer I see! Carry on, good ewe.
@Ulfra_Wolfe @packetcharmer ... this sounds like a useful venture!!
@JulieSqveakaroo @Ulfra_Wolfe @packetcharmer
I love this. We have to take care of each other when we are able to.
If I wasn't trapped here due to medical and SSI reasons I would take you up on this.
@maritroniuity @Ulfra_Wolfe one day you will be able to
Besides Coalinga is near a supercharging station.
@maritroniuity @Ulfra_Wolfe will make it easy to visit you whenever we’re in the area
@packetcharmer @maritroniuity We plan to do a lot more roadtrips, though that also means I need to get used to doing my writing on the road. :)
@Ulfra_Wolfe @maritroniuity I would think you might get some inspiration from a combination of weed and the diverse environments that make up the country
@packetcharmer @maritroniuity Oh, no doubt about it! I just would need to get better at setting myself time & using road trip time as work time.
@Ulfra_Wolfe @packetcharmer Ummm, if you are able to go through with this... could you maybe consider me for one of the people you help? Trapped in the middle of nowhere Georgia with a mom who thinks I'm influenced by the devil for being trans. And can't find a job over here. I DO get social security disability for my autism, so I could possibly be able to bring in some money in the meantime of trying to find a job.
@BadWrongFun @packetcharmer We'd be more than willing, the only hard part is finding a place for you. We have transport squared away, but don't quite have housing infrastructure ^^;
@Ulfra_Wolfe @packetcharmer Alright. I understand it takes time and RESOURCES to do this kind of thing.
@BadWrongFun @packetcharmer I want to get more organized, have a map put up, and have people willing/able to give crash space to put up their offers, including time limits if only temporary.
@packetcharmer @BadWrongFun The community has a surprising amount of resources. My only issue is incompatibility/abuse and potential fallouts involved there. I'd hate to think that would come up much in this community, but well. It kinda does in any, and there's responsibility involved. But I'm sure we'll figure it out as we go.
@Ulfra_Wolfe @BadWrongFun I’ve been looking at the possibility of purchasing our own aluminum trailer so we wouldn’t always need to worry about renting trailers when we move people. It’s actually not too expensive and would allow us to make whatever modifications to make moving easier.
@BadWrongFun @Ulfra_Wolfe I definitely definitely would like to help you in any way that I can. I’d recommend making friends on the west coast. Maybe you’d find someone who’d let you move in especially since you have steady income with SSI. At least in Washington state that should let you continue to get food stamps too.
@Ulfra_Wolfe @packetcharmer Always keep us in mind. My den can be used as a half way point if some want to get settled in UT, or to move from East to West.
@Kyna @Ulfra_Wolfe if nothing else it can maybe be a rest stop for us as we crisscross the country. Thanks!
@packetcharmer @Ulfra_Wolfe Lift where one stands, and offer support when one can.
@Ulfra_Wolfe @packetcharmer
This is awesome. I just wanted to say that.
