Talking with @Cascadiarch on why she was burnt out so much on fantasy games.

There isn't much sense of depth or development in a lot of character creation. Like, "This is my Elf Ranger. They are an Elf Ranger. At level 20, they will be a level 20 Elf Ranger." No matter what experiences they have, they are Elf Ranger -- maybe they cross class, but generally that's going to have been planned early on.

The game centers on "dungeons, unlocking new powers, finding out where the next batch of XP and GP come from".

There's good RPers in the games, don't get me wrong -- but also it can be hard to emulate real character development sometimes.

We just wove a wonderful story together of a barbarian yak learning how to read their ABCs through a song, and then bringing that song into a tavern while getting drunk, and so the next day people are like, "Uh... what did we do last night?"
'Oh, we sang the ABCs with a barbarian yak!'

That interests me more than what magic item I uncover. @Cascadiarch
