I like Star Trek because most of the episodes aren't solved via violence.

@er1n ds9 was the first star trek i watched and loved <3

@TipsyTentacle i think you're in the US, right?

the standard warning is it starts off rocky. even a few bad eps.

but they payoff in S2-S4 is AMAZING. S2 really made me a believer. S5 is half-great. you can read the behind-the-scenes reasons if you become a fan.

@alyx @TipsyTentacle its a good series, think DS9 but less bad and less tethered to the station

@nire @TipsyTentacle you didn't like DS9 either? i feel like i'm alone in that

i think i watched DS9 after B5, so that's probably a key factor

DS9 struck me as an episodic show that occasionally pretended to be serialized, whereas B5 was the real thing, and like 10 years early

@alyx @TipsyTentacle ds9 tried to be star trek but crammed into the "tethered to a station so can't run from fights you start, be diplomatic or be sure", B5 was that from the start. DS9 also tried to be violent within star trek, b5 just was

@TipsyTentacle @alyx so I actually think if they removed the b5 from ds9 I'd like it more, because it's incompatible with star trek

@CitySquirrel @TipsyTentacle it's in my top 3 shows ever along with twin peaks and deadwood!

@alyx @TipsyTentacle yeah easily in my top three. And to think I almost refused to watch it.

@CitySquirrel @TipsyTentacle i did refuse during its originaly airing! i saw the centauris and their awful hair and that was it, i was not interested

luckily i became aware of its incredible reputation and that convinced me to give it a real go in the mid-2000s. loved it.

@alyx @TipsyTentacle a girl in high school was obsessed and she drove me nuts so I was prejudiced against it. When I was 19 my girlfriend got me to agree to watch three episodes. I was hooked.
