32bpp me, mommy
@nergdron wow. ruining my kink here. ):
@TipsyTentacle my kink is 12bpp as implemented in the Amiga's HAM mode. that shit is still hot as fuck.
@nergdron pic please~
@TipsyTentacle HAM took a system that was supposed to only be able to display 16 colours to being able to display 4096 colours on screen. still my favourite gfx hack of all time. #deliciousHAM

@nergdron this is beautiful and stunning :O
@TipsyTentacle love love love the amiga. will always hold a special place in my heart.
@nergdron @TipsyTentacle That was a hack? I thought that mode was built into the Amiga?
@milego @TipsyTentacle it was definitely a hack figured out after the system launched. you're shifting the colour palette one channel at a time per each pixel, due to limitations of the gfx architecture, speed of CPU and memory, and the fact that there was still a leftover NTSC HSL colourspace processor on the board. it's not like today where there's provided APIs and shit, if you wanted HAM in your app you just had to write the code to do it, and make sure you left over enough CPU cycles to actually run your app after it was done actively manipulating the palette on every pixel.
so so rad. love that shit.
@TipsyTentacle @milego I mean, the CPU was only 7 MHz! you barely had any cycles to even do any other work for your actual app after spending the entire refresh time rewriting the colour palette. you had to be so careful with every cycle and write a lot of hand tuned assembly if you even thought about using HAM. hardcore as fuck tbh. 😉
@nergdron @TipsyTentacle @milego Ooh people talking about the Amiga... Also can we talk about Paula? Stick some headphones on and give this a listen.

And as you listen, keep in mind that this machine was released the same year as the bleepy bloopy NES.
@nergdron @TipsyTentacle hold and modify me
@amsomniac @TipsyTentacle I think you probably want a professional to do that kind of work. my hands aren't exactly steady enough for anything but the holding. 😉
@TipsyTentacle too late, i already 48bppd you. hdr is tasty.
