@TipsyTentacle it's difficult to get confirmation on some of the things due to the nature of the USSR but they were generally underfunded and working with outdated/unsafe equipment. several of their test pilots and such died and I believe due to the classified circumstances it took a long time for families to get closure or compensation, if they got any.
