Naturally it's meant as a compliment, so whenever someone says it to me I accept it, but there's always that pedant in me fuming.

On a very different subject, I honestly feel that calling someone talented as opposed to skill is more an insult than a compliment.

You're essentially saying that all of the work they put into their craft is nothing compared to their innate ability that they did nothing to achieve.

I'm working on letting my viewpoints be challenged. In the past I would delete my post before anyone responds for fear of getting into an argument.

But then I am likely butchering the topics we've discussed thus far, so don't take me as an expert in octopus intelligence.

My fiance is remarkably well read on marine life, though, and I trust their judgement on these things.

We seem to be fixated on the AI as destroyer narrative, which I understand, but I like to think that for all of our doomsaying, we would ultimately find a way to create an Artificial Intelligence that, while different and foreign to us, is benevolent or indifferent to a point.

I think of the Octopus, which according to my fiance presents a similar level of intelligence to us despite being a solitary creature. So difficult for us to understand for that reason, because if they had developed as a pack oriented creature with the ability to walk on land, they would likely be the dominant species.

But they have no interest in it, from what we know.

As a person with no actual experience in Artificial Intelligence, but much more experience with Science Fiction and Philosophy, it's been fascinating to think about the future of AI.

There's something to be said for an outsider's perspective on such things.

I don't have such a doom and gloom view of Artificial Intelligence - I don't believe sufficiently advanced intelligences will be our end. I think they will be comrades. An intelligence alien to our own but worth studying on a social science level, as equals.

I genuinely believe that such intelligences would expand our view of what intelligence is as a whole.

I've been waxing philosophic about AI on my twitter and it feels really nice, to be honest.

Thanks to everyone who tuned in and watched the stream!

Slowly and steadily getting somewhere with this piece.

See ya all in the next one, good night! 👏

Above all, though, I don't want to stress them out any more than they already are. I just... Yeah.

I hate that I have needs.

And the worst thing is I'm more likely to get through to them on this platform than through direct communication.

Similarly, I worry that I'm genuinely not needed or wanted.

That I'm just a wrench in things.

That spending time with me is more a bother than a relief.

I feel like I'm being ignored, and when I try to reach out we get into a maybe four sentence conversation. I worry about distance.
