activists pressuring the city of portland oregon to act as a municipal ISP received a curious response. the city argued that because they lack the expertise both to be an ISP and to contract an ISP, the best they can do for the people is to get scammed by comcast. it's been a month and some since i learned about their response and i'm still thinking about it.

when governments back off of providing essential services because they refuse to seek out the necessary expertise, it falls directly to the people to provide for themselves.
