I hurt someone's feelings in the process of explaining that, at the very least, I don't feel feelings the same way other people do.

That Very Quinn has Moved @ThatVeryQuinn

@woozle It is, and I frankly don't know what to do.

@woozle I have apologized, explained what I do feel and think, etc.

I don't know what to do and this... bothers me.

@ThatVeryQuinn One thing that sometimes helps me is to remember to try and imagine immediate interpersonal implications of the general statements you're making.

It's not your *fault* that people read these implications into the conversation; it's just easier to avoid misunderstanding if you assume they will be there and try to head them off at the pass.

@woozle I probably should have done this. I just thought I could be at ease around this person and could talk freely.

@ThatVeryQuinn Yeah, that's... hard. It can feel like a bit of a betrayal, when you trust someone to assume good intentions on your part but then they... seem willing to drop that assumption on a moment's notice.

It might be something like rejection sensitive dysphoria on their part -- taking any kind of general distancing or lack of emote as a personal rejection. (Some RSDers, like me, react more inwardly and generally become super-apologetic, but others become angry and confrontational.)
