Man, I remember when I was a first year at college and I thought Banksy's work was so thoughtful and provocative.

By the next year, when I went into the design field, I had already learned about a hundred more interesting street artists and was always pissed off whenever a student would call Banksy a visionary.

@ThatVeryQuinn i mean, i agree but got any pointers/recommendations? i'd love to hear of some artists

@joop A hundred is perhaps an exaggeration, and I don't know as many as I would like, but I because particularly fond of a wheat-paste poster-maker named Morley for a while. There's also Guerilla Girls who are sorta well-known and half street art half formal design sort of stuff.

I actually just found out about accessibleicon.org/ today, which is a form of street art and design activism centering around disability activism.

I haven't engaged with my love of street art for a while so I've lost a lot of who I knew, and I want to know more non-white, non-male (etc.) artists, because my own knowledge is horribly limited.

@joop I will say something, though - I really personally believe that street art is a huge deal on the local level. Might sound like a cop-out, but there are a lot of great artists on the local level that you can only really find by engaging with the culture in your area.

That Very Quinn has Moved @ThatVeryQuinn

@joop That is, if you're in a metropolitan area.

@ThatVeryQuinn I'm in #amsterdam, which is metropolitan-ish, it's certainly not huge.

I did notice two massive new paintings/pieces of art today near our central station, and I'll be looking into if there's any info/pictures on them.

the tricky thing is that, due to it being street art, it can be harder to find info, I guess. Or maybe I haven't looked in the right places :)

@joop I get you! It is a little hard to find information on street art, for sure. Let me know if/when you find anything, though! I'd love to hear about it!

My city has a program called Wall Therapy where they urge and pay mural artists to paint up walls of some public buildings. Electric boxes are also fair game, from the looks of it. There's also a lot of straight-up tagging.

@ThatVeryQuinn I'll make sure to update you if I find anything. i found there's a museum though, streetartmuseumamsterdam.com/

and I'll see if I can snap a picture of those two murals sometime soon-ish. Or if I can muster up the energy make an account dedicated to amsterdam's street art on masto.art and post pictures there

@joop Nice! I've wanted to start an art history blog on Street Art, myself, but it'd be a huge undertaking. :)
