My reaction to the breakup that immediately ensued after that was childish and uncalled for - essentially, I overcompensated for my actions by flagellating myself in text conversations with this person. We no longer have contact, and I genuinely hope I did not have a terribly profound effect on their mental well-being.
I'm writing this because, while my actions were not as dire and intentional as those of sexual predators and sexual assault, they contributed just as much to a culture that devalues consent, and I want to make up for that fact at least a little bit by opening up and making it clear that no-one is above this.
