@Nasiviru I studied general linguistics, but after I graduated a decade ago I've been an active translator, not an academic.

But everything related to languages is still extremely interesting. Right now I'm studying Dutch and will study Spanish for practical reasons, but I also got interested in sign language, so I guess I'll study Dutch sign language too at some point.

We had an excellent writers' group today. Everyone had produced some text beforehand, and today we gave each other feedback on our texts. This was not the first time I was part of such group, and this won't be the last.

So if you're determined to be a writer and get your texts published or distributed, i strongly recommend you to become a part of a peer group for serious and goal-oriented writers.

If you can't find a live group in your area, you can always have an online group. If you write in #Finnish, we have a nice #Discord community. Ask me for an invite.

@nex3 Haha, it's a bit like how I wrote my latest novel in #nanowrimo last year:

- I must introduce a person from a new group of people in every chapter, and that person must be actively doing something. I wrote 25 chapters, so I got a pretty diverse cast.
- Every person appearing in more than one chapter must be female. Needless to say, all the main characters are women.

That manuscript kicks some ass. Now I only need to find a publisher for it. 📗

@cmdrspacebabe It may just be that the local mindset here in OkCupid is so heavily geared towards dating and sexual/romantic relationships that it won't pay out to even try to find anything else from it.

@cmdrspacebabe OkCupid, oh dear... I never found anyone from there, BUT then one beautiful person found me there, and now we've been married for a few years. :heart_eyes:

But other than them, I didn't get to connect to other people through OkCupid. And I haven't even used it any more.

@panickyintheuk Oh yes, I can very well relate to the feeling you get, when the other person you're so attached to has some other life and other people in their own life, so that they can't be with me all the time. For me they are the precious one, but for them I might be just one of several. Terrible feeling, and so unfair to the other.

@cmdrspacebabe Yes, meeting online is the easiest way. Too sad, online friends may live far away, and the physical closeness will be missing.

I'm all the time looking for new groups and communities to get into, but it just feels so frustrating to get disappointed time and again.

@Amburu I can say that I have three people I have attached to on a deep emotional level, got at the ages of 15, 30 and 32. But still, three people are not enough to take away the ever-gnawing sense of loneliness. And they are all from separate directions, we don't form a group. I'd so like to be part of something, have my place in this world, so to say. But no, I'm here to only look other people have their places in groups and communities.
