Music streaming? What's that? *glances at her Sansa Clip+ with only 4 GB of internal memory, plus an SDHC slot with a 32 GB card that's basically filled to the brim*

...Okay, so maybe my method isn't sustainable. But at least I can swap out cards!!! >_>;

@Skirmisher strong agree!

streaming has its uses (seems great for discovery) but it is no substitute for personal control over your own library of mp3s, some of which will never appear on streaming

@Skirmisher @alyx +1... never turn control of an aspect of your life, e.g. music listening, to silicon valley. there'll be a honeymoon period of convenience, and then gradually over time there's less and less of what you came for, and more and more advertisement and shitty anti-you behavior, and they're betting you're too much of a creature of habit to go back to being responsible for your own library. see also chromecast, facebook, windows...

@lifning @Skirmisher beautifully put, liffy.

will: cool. mine's very sporadic too; i'll suddenly become aware of a rare sega album from 1991 and start searching like mad, finding other stuff in the process

my strategy leads to limited results, though. i am absolutely missing out on fantastic music in genres unknown that would blow my mind, if i only put more energy into searching outside my long-ossified preferences...

@alyx @Skirmisher @lifning If you think of streaming services, take a look at resonate.is. It's a cooperative service where you end up owning the songs you like.

The only downside is that the music library there is still quite limited.

(And I'm not affiliated, I just think their model is cool.)

@alyx @Skirmisher @Stoori ah, i heard about that a while back and it seemed interesting :) some day i might even look into it! alas, there's always so much time, and so little to do...
i hope their library can grow in the meantime!

@lifning @alyx @Skirmisher I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, because this week has been quite busy and exploring new music needs a relaxed environment.

But by quick preview it seems that a music hipster like me could find some interesting underground names there. :D
