Hi. Not so much boycotting that other place, as long term intent to have a break from it coincided with this day. So, does this place have any good *news* accounts or is Mastodon still just people talking about Mastodon?
@ozjimbob so far I've found some news bots that only echo links from news sources unofficially, but not any official news accounts.
@ozjimbob Perhaps it could be a good idea to open a separate account (on a different instance even) just to follow news bots, and then you could enjoy the silence on your main account and tune into the news feed when necessary.
@mrgah definitely gives the place a different feel. Twitter takes place against the constant background noise of world events, where as this feels, yes, intimate, but also a bit cold and scary.
Like loud chat and laughter on a busy street versus whispered conversations in a private room.
I know what you mean; if you're on a big instance (which we are), it's like you're given a choice between a very quiet TL of people you've explicitly followed or the firehose of all of the mastodon activity locally or in the fediverse
small instances can feel like you've wandered into someone's house; while medium sized ones can feel pretty homey, like a good sized community
but groups (and maybe account export?) are coming, so that may help
@Stoori @ozjimbob
honestly, the news coverage is something I've been missing here, too, though masto seems pretty well suited to meaningful discussion, posting, etc.
it's def something to work on; at the very least, if you post news stuff, hashtag it as #news
longer term, there might be a good argument for a news/pol-focused instance, esp. given that some of the folks here emphatically _don't_ want to see news coverage w/o CWs
