Was talking with a friend earlier today about the conflict between idealized notions of Artistic Genius and the reality that making art involves a lot of goddam craft and repetition for basically everybody who makes it. And the disservice that "genius" perception does to folks who think they therefore most not be able to "be an artist".
Thinking about that craft angle a lot as I spend hours painting fucking stripes on this current painting.
@joshmillard same thing happens with programming. If you know how to code and try to get others to do so, you find a lot "but I'm not smart enough for that" and they don't believe you when you say most of coding is practice and hard work.
