Twee2 (https://github.com/Dan-Q/twee2) helps me a ton when I'm doing unconventional Twine stuff.

Another thing that helps a ton is to have firebug/dev console open and inspect whatever I want to do.

I'm doing a big project in Twine right now and I might port it to plain javascript once I'm done prototyping because everything I need to do feels hellish in Twine.
