I am occasionally tempted to shave or otherwise alter my eyebrows so they have that Vulcan upsweep.

And yes, that beamed-over you is a *copy*. Which means you could be any number of places at once, provided suitable frames were available.

And if you can be copied as a gigantic data set, you can be *edited*. You could wake up with different skills, different interests, different memories. And unless the person(s) doing the editing are nice and tell you what they changed, you'd have no way of knowing.

It just occurred to me:

If humans ever develop the technology to upload minds to machines, "travel" at light speed becomes possible.

Travel in scare quotes because it's not people or machines traveling, it's information.

You'd still need to send hardware out at annoyingly lugubrious speeds, otherwise there's nothing to "catch you" at the other end. But a fully mechanised mission could reach Alpha Centauri in roughly 80-100 years.

Once that station is in place and fitted with high-gain antennae, though? A copy of you could be there in just over four years.

Oh, right: I have to deal with a release form, too. *That* is what I should do presently, whilst I'm thinking of it!

Finally connected with local surgeon's care coördinator.

They are going to talk to him and let him know where I'm at and where I want to go. We *might* schedule a consult, but more likely than not, it'll be in several months, once that clinic is *actually* up and running.

Given that, what I *really* hope for is two things:

1) to learn what sorts of challenges a surgeon actually faces with a non-standard procedure such as I'm requesting;

2) get this clinic's collective gears turning to at least *eventually* address cases like mine.

I know I'm ahead of the curve here. But I'm doing what I can to plant seeds to harvest later.

Also, that care coördinator and I keep playing "can I call you back?"

Frickin annoying that I don't have my own kitchen. I had *just* put breks in the oven.

Hopefully I'll catch up with them in about an hour.

Meanwhile, yesterday my PT used a wonderful turn of phrase:

I.e. don't overextend when you stretch.

Well, the good news is my back seems no worse than yesterday.

The "bad" news is it's not really better. (Bad in scare quotes, because in context it's pretty neutral.)

Sent C a text asking if she could help me do grocery shopping this afternoon. Have yet to hear back.

Brain decided to try inventing alternatives to the radio alphabet, based on the elements and on mythical creatures.

I'm stumped on J in the elementabet. Can cheat on Q (mercury, i.e. quicksilver) & W (tungsten).

Thank the Stars I was prescient and had scheduled PT already. I know my body well enough that I could tell something was amiss.

This means that we're treating my back in its acute phase. Hopefully we can get the inflammation under control so my nervous system can relax again.

I am now home, taken 100mg of tramadol, and am going to try to sleep a bit.
