Christopher Simpson's "Spring" sonata is quite stormy, which contrasts starkly with Vivaldi's take and seems perhaps a touch surprising.

Ofc Simpson was in England. Where spring often means storms.

Maybe before tomorrow I'll hunt down another 10 things to practice on, so I don't have to worry about that step?

I'd reward myself with some crafting, but I'm no longer in the mood rn (and a wee bit foggy anyway). So not sure what I'll move on to next...

Anyway I've written 7 of 10 planned ads so far, so that's something, at least.

One problem about using a computer to write:

It's *so easy* to get pulled into distractions.

Not offhand sure how best to combat this, TBPH? I usually use Docs for writing because it's readily accessible & by definition highly portable.

But Internet = distractions *everywhere*... ∑:s

My back is being *just* persistently painy enough that I'm gonna slather a bunch of CBD stuff on it.

On to some Christopher Simpson: The Seasons, Months, and Other Divisions of Time.

(I sure know I can play the continuo line in my sleep; D, A, B, F#... etc. etc. ad infinitum...)

Ah, and the album finale: the infamous Canon and Gigue in D major.

People always forget about the gigue, for some reason. But it's the part violinists love the most!

(Probably because most have played the canon so often, they could play it in their sleep, lol.)

Anyway, now the album is on to a pleasant set of variations for violin by Pachelbel. Cheery tunes with 3 viols singing along in the background.

A bit more condusive to, you know, *writing*.

Like, how am I supposed to sell a space heater after getting my heart ripped out, torn to shreds, stitched back together and put back in place?

That's, incidentally, why I rarely listen to this particular sonata. For me, it is *that intense*. It's like being played by the cruellest, most loving domme in the world. Someone who knows how to tie your psyche in knots, only to drive you to an incredible, mind-blowing catharsis.

Ofc after that emotional whirlwind, I've *completley* lost my writing pace 🙃

Yep. That sonata still grabs hold of me about halfway through and doesn't let go until the last chord dies away.

Starts out pleasant, but then... dissonance. Driving dissonance that sends a chill down my spine.

Then... tearful rage. I'm almost not myself any more. My body moves of its own will.

And then... sighs. Resignation. Sobbing. The beat is my breath. My breath is the beat. Tears are streaming down my cheeks.

At the last moment... the sun comes through the clouds. My face is still wet, but just as the piece ends, a few sweet chords restore my hope.

At last, I'm in my body again. I'm me once more.

Ofc this album has one of my absolute favourite sonatas (2 violins, viola da gamba, basso continuo)... one that takes you on an emotional whirlwind.

I almost always end up crying listening to it.
