Really, asking "what should replace Facebook" is putting things the wrong way around.

A more interesting way to ask the question is, "what did Facebook replace."

People used to build their own websites. People used to have blogs. People used USENET which was truly distributed and un-censorable.

Facebook and Google took the open internet and open standards and monetized and made everything crappy. Enough of that. Nothing should replace Facebook, it's done, stick a fork in it.

Has anyone explained to the newbies that the federated timeline is different on every instance?

This was super not obvious to me.

So much to teach... Friendly reminders: Content Warnings are there for a reason, it is not to censor you, but to allow people to engage with content they are comfortable with / ready to engage it.

Typical subjects can be: Food, Politics, Sex/Lewd, Selfies/Eye contact, or animals typical of phobia.

etc etc.

Just consider it, and consider that it doesn't hurt to use it. :)

Reminder that if you wear eyeglasses, you are using the world's most common adaptive device. Examine your language about other adaptive devices like wheelchairs and canes. If you wouldn't call someone wearing glasses "lens bound" why would you say something similar about a wheelchair user?

There were local elections in the Netherlands this week. For the first time publicly transgender candidates got selected, four persons in three municipalities.

Not that bad at all! For example, in Utrecht there are now two transgender representatives out of 45.
